Since 2012-14, as the President of the Working Group for Prevention of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology, I succeeded in increasing the time dedicated in smoking cessation in Greek Cardiological Congresses. I actively participate in training of Greek cardiologists wishing to gain knowledge and experience in smoking cessation. Individuals that wish to stop smoking rarely manage to do that on their own. That is why it is important to ask and get help from an experienced cardiologist. Nevertheless, their outpatient course is often interrupted by hospitalizations due to acute worsening or need for therapeutic interventions (coronary angiography and angioplasty, pacemaker or defibrillator implantation, restoration to sinus rhythm or ablation for atrial fibrillation, cardiac surgery). If you suffer from a chronic cardiac disease, regular and watchful follow up will allow you to live a normal life and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations.
